Where is Casanare?
Casanare is one of the departments that is part of the Colombian Orinoquia region, called "Los Llanos". It is located in eastern Colombia, bordering the departments of Meta, Arauca, Boyacá, Cundinamarca and Vichada.
What is the Weather like?
We have a warm climate with an average temperature of 28ºC all year round.
This region of Colombia has rainy and a dry season. The rainy months are between May and October and the dry season between December and March, the other months are transitioning between the two.
How do I get to Casanare?
By Air:
There are 3 airlines (LATAM, EASYFLY and AVIANCA) with more than 10 daily flights to the capital El Yopal from Bogotá or Bucaramanga.
From Yopal we will connect you by land to the different places to visit in our tours.
By Land:
Bogotá – Villavicencio – El Yopal: 384 Km, about 8 hours on paved road in excellent condition. It is the main road that connects the interior of the country with the plains.
Bogotá – Sisga – Guateque – Santa María – Monterrey – El Yopal: 326 Km, about 7 hours of travel, mostly paved (with a stretch of 20 km of unpaved track).
Bogotá – Tunja – Sogamoso – El Yopal: 354 Km, about 7 hours travel time. Mostly paved (with a stretch of 13 km of unpaved track).
How safe is it in Casanare?
Casanare is a very safe territory at the moment, the security is generally very good and its roads are guarded by military infrastructure.
What are some Recommendations for Visiting the "Llanos"?
When visiting the "llano", it's important to take the tropical climate of this region into account, with its dry season in the winter months and a rainy season in the summer. In the rainy season, access is very limited due to the lower roads and flooding, so it is always recommended to use 4x4 vehicles for Safaris.
Clothes: It is preferable to wear comfortable clothes that are easy to dry, long pants and long sleeve shirts, ideally colors that blend with the environment... In the rainy season we recommend wearing a raincoat. Sports shoes, hiking boots and preferably rubber boots in the rainy season.
It is important to protect yourself from the sun with a hat or cap and sunscreen. As it is a tropical region it is advisable to use insect repellent.

What kind of food does Casanare offer?
There are a wide variety of local, national and international foods available. Its typical dishes include meat such as the well-known "Mamoma", but you can find vegetarian options and international cuisine primarily in its capital, El Yopal.

In the tours we offer we have vegetarian options. Our tourists can tell us about food restrictions and we will accomodate them accordingly.
You will also be able to enjoy a great variety of tropical fruits typical Colombia. we use seasonal fruits to take advantage of the local products of farmers in the region. In many of the nature reserves where our tours take place, we have programs that seek to offer organic products produced in the area.

What kind of medical care do I get?
All our tours have travel insurance with excellent coverage. In addition, we have the necessary emergency plans to deal with any eventuality. In the capital El Yopal, we have a very good hospital.
What Ecosystems do I find in Casanare?
Casanare has a wide variety of ecosystems ranging from Páramo, high Andean forests, piedmont forests and floodplain savannas. In addition to this we have many rivers and bodies of water.
Towards the northwest, we have the eastern Andes mountain range, where the majority of the agricultural production is located and is the transportation route to other departments. The lower part of the department mainly consists the "llano", plains, most of which remains flooded during most of the year and is home to a large amount of fauna and flora typical of the Orinoquia region.
In the mountain and piedmont areas, the main tourist activities are hiking, bird watching, visits to waterfalls, mountain climbing, visits to rural communities and interaction with culture.
In the savannah areas, the tourist plans focus on the Safaris Llaneros, where fauna observation is the main activity, usually large herds of herbivores such as chigüiros and deer, as well as incredible animals such as anteaters, anacondas, otters and big cats such as Pumas, and a great variety of birds. The Natural Reserves where we offer our tours always integrate the culture and traditions of the plains, with horse riding and our local customs. We want our tourists to appreciate the strong relationship that the Llaneros have with livestock, which has helped to keep their culture alive and has led to the conservation of their natural ecosystem.
